GALVESTON, Texas (December 18, 2017) – The Port of Galveston welcomed its newest staff member today. Laura C. Camcioglu is the Port’s new Director of Administration.
Ms. Camcioglu will lead the Port’s Administration Department. She is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the Port, including all human resources, procurement, general administration, information systems and risk and safety activities.
Formerly the Assistant Manager for Christian Community Service Center, Camcioglu has over 20 years of experience in finance, procurement, human resources, project management and communications. She served as Division Manager for the Public Works and Engineering department for the City of Houston and Acting Assistant Director of Human Resources for the Houston Airport System.
“We are excited to welcome Laura to our team,” said Peter Simons, Interim Port Director. “With her vast experience in human resources and procurement, she will be an invaluable asset to our hard working management team.”
Camcioglu earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M and a Master of Arts degree from St. Mary’s University in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. In addition, she has completed the Airport Management Professional Accreditation Program.

The Port of Galveston is the region’s gateway to the Gulf for cruise ships and international trade. Located at the entrance to Galveston Bay, the Port leases and maintains facilities on both Galveston Island and Pelican Island. The Galveston Island operations are a diversified mix of cargo including roll on-roll-off cargo, dry bulk, export grain, refrigerated fruit, general cargo, and project cargo. In addition, the Port handles over 1.7 million cruise passengers annually. The Port’s Pelican Island facilities comprise a combination of undeveloped property, an active ship and rig repair facility, and liquid bulk operations. The Port is a self-supporting enterprise utility with operating revenues of approximately $33 million. It does not rely on tax dollars for operations.
