Health, Safety & Environmental
In keeping with our mission, values and objectives, the port established the Galveston Wharves Safety Committee in 2021. The focus includes:
- Creating a culture that prioritizes safety
- Developing the port’s safety policy statement
- Doing what it takes to provide an environment where port employees are safe
- Delivering regular and consistent safety training
Port employees and partners staff the Safety Committee to strengthen safety performance on the waterfront through awareness, metrics, training, reward and recognition and policies and procedures.
Safety initiatives include ongoing training, a safety observation program, personal protective equipment (PPE) and tracking safe work hours and incidents.
The Health Safety Environment Observation Program allows employees to report potential hazards or unsafe conditions on the waterfront and in offices. The program aims to identify any issues before they become serious and take corrective action.
In addition, housekeeping issues on the port can lead to safety hazards. Please promptly report concerns so that port personnel can address these in a timely to prevent incidents and/or injuries.
In the event of an incident, please complete an incident form. Should you have questions about completing this form, Email Laura Camciolgu, Director of Special Projects.
