Gate 40, the Port of Galveston’s main entrance to the West Port Cargo Complex, will be closed due to road construction beginning June 15. It will remain closed for about 6 months. All vehicles entering and exiting the cargo area will use alternate routes and gates. See maps below.

ALTERNATE ROUTES

All traffic traveling eastbound on Harborside Drive will take the Old Port Industrial (OPI) Road exit and drive under the 51st Street overpass to access OPI. Three alternate gates will be open for different uses as shown below.

All traffic will exit through Gate 15 onto Harborside Drive. Wind blades will exit at Gate 22, turn right onto OPI and follow OPI back onto Harborside Drive westbound to I-45.

GATE ACCESS

Vehicles will access designated gates as follows:

  • Gate 22 – Main truck entrance open 5:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays
  • Gate 21A – Small vehicle entrance open 5:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays
  • Gate 40 – CBP scanning only (no entrance/exit) – Once x-rayed, trucks will be escorted by Security to exit at Gate 15. (Contact Port Police dispatch for escort)
  • Gate 15 – Main exit for all vehicles. Manned 24/7. Exit only 5:30 a.m.-4 p.m. EXCEPTIONS: Cruise provisioning trucks and oversized loads that exceed the 51st Street overpass clearance of 15 feet, 9 inches will enter and exit at Gate 15.
  • Gate 21A/22 – Guard house manned 5:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays

EXCEPTIONS

  • Wind blades – Exit Gate 22 by 8 a.m. weekdays
  • Cruise Terminal 28 provisioning trucks – Enter and exit Gate 15
  • Enclosed container trucks must go through x-ray at Gate 40, then U-turn and be escorted by Security to exit at Gate 15
  • Oversized loads that exceed the 51st Street overpass clearance of 15 feet, 9 inches must enter and exit at Gate 15
